Many times I wake up in the morning with joy and gratitude for the years I've spent as a Christian Scientist.

The first things this religion taught me were to be a good person of dignity, to hush the temptation to indulge harmful habits, personal dislikes, and fears, and to wrap myself instead in God's love. Christian Science awakened me to the necessity of bringing into every facet of my life the spiritual understanding of God's closeness and never-failing direction. This guidance has been most helpful in accomplishing that goal: "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts" (Science and Health).

Some years ago my hands became sore and swollen, and I could hardly care for myself. This condition—commonly called arthritis—continued for some time. I studied the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings to find healing.
