One day, for apparently no reason, I found I could hardly breathe. This seemed to immobilize me, not only physically but mentally. I couldn't seem to move or think or pray. It was like being in a mental and physical straitjacket. I reached out to God to help me.
At once I began to see, to some degree, God's total control over man and the universe. This gave me great courage and confidence. I knew I was not struggling alone or without God's help. But because the pain was so severe, it was hard to think consistently or to pray with joy.
I was able to call a Christian Science practitioner, whose immediate response was very comforting. I was told I had nothing to be afraid of and that my healing would result from the recognition of my sonship with God. This strengthened my conviction that I would be healed and helped me to overcome my fear of the physical causes and to trust in the spiritual truth of my being as a child of God.
