As we left a morning meeting at city hall, a colleague and I...

As we left a morning meeting at city hall, a colleague and I collided at the foot of the marble stairway, and suddenly I was flying through the air. I landed flat on the floor. (My colleague was unharmed.) Aware of pain in my left elbow and struggling to maintain consciousness, I recall repeating the statement "Love is my God, and my God is Love" over and over. (In her book Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy says: "The real Christian Scientist is constantly accentuating harmony in word and deed, mentally and orally, perpetually repeating this diapason of heaven: 'Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love.'")

I remained conscious and asked for assistance in getting to a chair. Someone called an emergency medical service. I gave my colleague the name of a Christian Science practitioner to call to pray for me.

When the paramedics arrived they were quite troubled by my extremely low blood pressure and were barely able to find a pulse. They persistently urged a trip to the hospital for further tests. I thanked them for their concern (and for the cot I rested on) but assured them that I would be taken home.
