About two years ago I noticed a growth on my body
About two years ago I noticed a growth on my body. Soon my clothes did not fit properly. As I prayed about this situation, spiritual truths from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy that I had learned over the years were beacon lights of inspiration, full of fresh new meaning. The Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly provided me with lots of ideas to pray with each day. In additional study I found many helpful references, such as this one from Science and Health: "Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death."
As I continued to pray, I was able to go about my normal activities, which include hiking and bowling. But as ski season approached, it certainly appeared that I would not be able to ski, and downhill skiing is my favorite sport. Reasoning that I could not make a god of the things I like to do, I turned to God completely for His guidance and thanked Him for His ever-present love.
One morning, after I had studied the Bible Lesson, the thought came clearly, "OK, I can give up skiing." Just as quickly the Biblical character Abraham came to mind. Abraham learned that spiritual devotion, not material sacrifice, is the highest way to worship God. I realized that God's man is not bound by material limitation, because he reflects the allness of God, good. I felt joyously free. Superstition and conventional beliefs about sacrifice and limitation dissolved into a clear understanding of my true being as a perfect child of God. In the glow of that realization I felt something change. The growth had opened and was draining. The healing was soon complete.
