At one time I was suffering from a painful illness
At one time I was suffering from a painful illness. Because I felt I needed help in praying about the situation, I turned to a Christian Science practitioner. She reminded me of this helpful sentence from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain; no nerve in Mind, and no mind in nerve; no matter in Mind, and no mind in matter; no matter in Life, and no life in matter; no matter in good, and no good in matter." This statement helped me see that there is no mind in matter that could dispute God's dominion. Since all space and all consciousness, is filled with God, there cannot be any room for illness, pain, or disharmony.
As I continued to pray, it became clear to me that all my life I had been afraid of conflict. I had to learn to elevate myself above conflict and disharmony in my surroundings and repudiate them as no part of God's kingdom. I worked a great deal with the first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Exodus). I saw myself and my children as pure and flawless in our true, spiritual nature. And I saw that my children are truly God's children and that God cares for and protects every one of them; not one of them does He forget. I felt secure in God's love.
This period of prayer and self-examination uncovered minor, hidden weaknesses that were overcome as I delved deeper into the teachings of Christian Science. Gradually I became free from pain and weakness until the healing was complete. I am very grateful for this healing and for the loving help I was given.
