When I was born, my mother was a medical nurse, and neither she nor my father attended any church. My mother had known of Christian Science earlier but had not at that time pursued its teachings. With marriage and a family, my parents' challenges loomed large. Despite the meticulous care my mother gave her three small children, we were constantly ill. This, together with employment and marital difficulties, made my parents realize that they needed something more secure to base their lives on. They felt they needed to know God.

They looked into other religions but were not satisfied with the answers given to their questions. My mother's dear sister reintroduced them to Christian Science. Because they found very satisfying answers and saw some outstanding healings of us children, my parents continued to study Christian Science. A brother's congenital foot defect, a severe fever, mumps, and concussion were among the early healings in our family.

By the time I was four years old, all medicine had been discarded and we were turning completely to God for healing. I will always treasure Christian Science as the greatest gift my parents ever gave me. Since that time, for over thirty-five years I have relied on God for my health, happiness, guidance, supply, and I have found Him to be "a very present help in trouble" as the psalmist declares in the Bible.
