The following two healings were my introduction to Christian Science and its healing power. While I was living with my sister and her family (attending a nearby university), I witnessed my first Christian Science healing. My sister's face was horribly burned by a gasoline explosion. We were alone at the time.
My sister gave me the number of a Christian Science practitioner to call. I told the practitioner of the explosion and added that she was walking the floor in pain. I don't recall what the practitioner said to me, but whatever it was it calmed me. She then told me to tell my sister that she would pray for her at once and asked me to read to my sister from the Bible, Daniel 3:12–30. This is the account of the three Hebrew captives cast into a furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar because they refused to serve his gods. It tells that they walked unhurt in the midst of the fire and that "the fire had no power" upon their bodies or clothes. Only what bound them was burned. The king looked on "astonied," recognizing and acknowledging the power of the Hebrew captives' God.
The king couldn't have been more amazed at what he saw than I was at what I was witnessing. For by the time I had finished reading the Bible account, which didn't take long, my sister was free of all pain. The flesh filled in on her face and the skin returned to its natural state within a short period, leaving no scars. Her complexion was as lovely as always.
