What a marriage can signify

Recently my brother asked if I would be willing to serve as best man at his wedding. Of course I was delighted. Yet it was my first try at performing this particular function, and I wasn't entirely sure about all of the etiquette involved!

When I arrived at my brother's home the day before the wedding, I discovered that one of the responsibilities for the best man was to say a few words in honor of the bride and groom at the reception that would follow the marriage ceremony. Amid the frantic activities, as all the last-minute preparations were being made, I managed to find a few quiet minutes to consider what thoughts might be appropriate to share.

I realized that obviously the wedding festivities were a joyous celebration, a special time for family and friends to come together. And I also recalled that in the New Testament accounts of Christ Jesus' ministry, the first recorded public act he performed was his blessing of the wedding feast at Cana, where he changed the water into wine.
