I first heard of Christian Science many years ago

I first heard of Christian Science many years ago. At that time I attended a branch church a few times and obtained a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science seemed to make more sense to me than any other religion, but worldly pleasures such as drinking and smoking stood between me and its teachings. Because I indulged in these habits, I did not take up the study of Science at that time.

Some years ago, faced with an alcoholic problem and wishing to give up the longstanding habit of smoking, I passed a Christian Science church and thought that if anything could cure me, it was this Science. I began to attend a branch church.

At first the addictions seemed to have a strong hold on me. But I felt it was a matter of life and death and finally asked a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. The practitioner helped me understand that if something is not good, it is not true; and if it is not true, it does not have any power. After some months, during which time I continued to pray and study Christian Science, one day in the middle of smoking a cigarette it tasted awful. I put it out and have never even wanted to smoke since.
