Notes from a peace lecture
(During the month of May 1986, more than seven hundred lectures on the topic of peace were sponsored by Christian Science churches throughout the world.)
I took notes, wrote them down
Carefully, prayerfully:
Evil qualities disappear
for want of a witness. .
The battle is against
the claim that evil exists. ...
I am responsible for
my thoughts of the other person.
These notes and many others
Were jotted down, held to heart.
Next day someone railed against me.
I did not bear witness to the wrong.
I saw the man of God's creating.
I saw him as easy to love.
Always naturally good, pure.
Never able to hurt/be hurt.
(Not across a neighbor's stone wall
Nor a nation's steel curtain.)
Notes on paper were translated
Into prayer on life's pathway.
Changing a cloud of conflict
Into a rainbow of peace.
And I am grateful.
