God does speak to us today

The prophets and disciples often heard God's voice, but what about us today? How can we be better listeners so that we can hear His message?

Can we hear God's voice today as clearly as when He spoke to Noah, Moses, Elijah and the other prophets? We may not hear an audible voice, but we can hear, within our being, the quiet voice of God, Truth, that penetrates the depths of consciousness. Our real nature is the likeness of God, divine Mind, and we are actually inseparable from God. Living up to this true nature enables us to prove what the prophet Isaiah wrote: "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left." Isa. 30:21.

How can listening to God and hearing Him speak to us be of practical value and use in our daily life? As we listen to God we are guided, directed, and protected, because we are becoming conscious of the fact that we are under His law, the perfect jurisdiction of Mind. Thus we learn which way to take and the right decisions to make. Here's a small example I've found helpful.

I am a former schoolteacher. At the close of school one June, a series of achievement tests was given to my students. It was my job to score these tests and then write the results on each student's permanent record card. After scoring the tests, a very time-consuming task, I was ready for the next step, the recording of the test results. But when I looked for the tests, they were nowhere to be found. I searched frantically for almost a week. I looked in my classroom, my home, my car—everywhere. But to no avail. If the tests were not found, it would mean that they had to be given over again. What to do?
