FROM THE DIRECTORS
New appointments
We are very pleased to announce the election of Beulah M. Roegge, C.S.B., as Clerk of The Mother Church. Mrs. Roegge takes office on January 1 when Allison W. Phinney, Jr., C.S.B., succeeds DeWitt John, C.S.B., as Editor of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science.
Mrs. Roegge has been a Journal-listed practitioner since 1962, and is a teacher of Christian Science. Her services to our Church include appointments as Field Assistant to the Department of Branches and Practitioners—as it was then known—member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, and Associate Editor of the periodicals. She has recently served concurrently as a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society and as Publisher's Agent.
Mrs. Roegge's valuable work at The Mother Church, as well as her rich experience prior to coming here, will contribute much to the office of Clerk.
The new Editor of the periodicals, Mr. Phinney, has worked for The Mother Church since January 1960 when he joined the Committee on Publication Office. He was appointed Manager of Committees on Publication in 1978—after several years as Assistant Manager—and occupied that post until he was elected Clerk of The Mother Church in June of last year. He is a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, available to the Board under the provisions of Article XXXII, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy.
Mr. Phinney's contributions to the Christian Science periodicals include his article in the 1966 centennial book on Mrs. Eddy, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: Its Impact on Religion," in the 1975 Journal series. He has had a great deal of publishing and editing experience, and is listed as a Religion Consultant for American Heritage. His editorials will begin to appear in several weeks.
Mr. John's desire to devote full time to the teaching and practice of Christian Science prompted his request to retire as Editor of the periodicals on January 1. We are deeply grateful for all he has contributed to the Cause of Christian Science in his distinctive service here at The Mother Church. In addition to his term as Editor, his many posts of major responsibility include Manager of Committees on Publication, Editor of The Christian Science Monitor, and member of The Christian Science Board of Directors.
Mr. John has been a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science for many years, and taught the Normal class of 1982. He is author of the book The Christian Science Way of Life. His dedicated work for our Cause over the years has been devoted exclusively to the promotion and extension of Christian Science. We particularly appreciate his selfless acceptance of his last post as Editor of the periodicals after serving on the Board. We know Mr. John's continued service to our Cause in various ways will be a blessing to all.
We are indeed grateful to Mrs. Roegge and Mr. Phinney for accepting their positions, and for the dedication and professional excellence they bring to their work.
