In my childhood I was afflicted with epilepsy
In my childhood I was afflicted with epilepsy. Many doctors were consulted about my condition, but none could offer me permanent relief. When I reached the age of twelve, the trouble became so alarming my mother prayed earnestly for strength to carry on and cope with the difficulty.
Within a month Christian Science was presented to her. She purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. And I was taken for a visit to a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me treatment through prayer. For a year I was free of the attacks. Then they suddenly returned in a more severe form.
By then I had begun to acknowledge Christian Science as the only real healing method. We were living in the country far from other students of Science, but we studied the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. At times I became very discouraged, but I never gave up. During the course of eight years, I developed a growing awareness of my true nature as God's immortal child. I also became a member of The Mother Church. And when a group of Christian Scientists organized in the town near our home, my brother and I joined them and served as Readers.
