"Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 512). About five years ago I had an experience that taught me a great deal about the protective power of God. I learned that I am always safe wherever I am because God, Spirit, is as close as my thoughts.
My husband and I had plans to go sailing with friends in a nearby town. That morning we both felt uneasy about going. Yet because we didn't want to miss any of the fun, we started out anyway.
Soon after we left the harbor, the weather changed quickly. Rain and lightning were followed by winds that grew very forceful. The owner of the boat felt we would be safe. His boat was thirty feet long and had a heavy leaded keel, which was expected to keep the boat stable. So, although we had time to return to the harbor, we kept sailing.
