Mortal belief is powerless to blind us to the permanent good of reality
Our family has experienced years of blessings through Christian Science. As I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy from cover to cover for the first time, the habit of fingernail biting simply dropped away. But perhaps my most outstanding healing was that of a painful back condition. The difficulty came at a time when I had been feeling resentful over a certain matter for several weeks. I was forced to lie flat in bed because any movement caused severe pain.
I wrote to a friend, a Christian Scientist, telling her about the problem. It seemed to be linked to the resentment I was harboring. The truths shared in her reply brought me complete relief. She quoted Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy speaks of the angel Gabriel (p. 567): "The Gabriel of His [God's] presence has no contests. To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death." The key line for me was, "The Gabriel of His presence has no contests."
As I perceived the innate spiritual perfection of each of God's ideas, I saw that I couldn't be made to feel resentful over any person or condition. Mortal belief was declared powerless to blind me to the permanent good of God's reality. This glimpse of the infinite nature of God's allness wiped the suggestion of human injustice from my consciousness, and I was instantaneously healed of the back trouble.
