Christian Science was unknown to me before...
Christian Science was unknown to me before I began taking singing lessons from a teacher who is a student of this Science. On a few occasions when I hesitated to go to my lesson because of a cold, she encouraged me to come anyway. In these instances, I sang without restrictions; in fact, there was greater ease in using my voice than ordinarily. Although Christian Science was never discussed, I was aware of a rare atmosphere of love in her home. And during the period of my voice lessons, I was healed of a condition that had been diagnosed as sinus trouble.
After I began studying Christian Science, it made such a favorable impression on me that I wanted to find out all I could about it and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. During this time I found myself with a persistent back problem, which militated against my being able to stand properly. I sought help from a Christian Science practitioner, and the time spent in her office proved enlightening. She explained that in my natural, status as God's child, I was truly free and could have evidence of that freedom now. The time went quickly, and when I stood to leave, I realized I'd been completely healed. The world seemed different when I stepped out into the sunlight. As the day was clear and bright, so was my thinking clarified and my being exalted.
After that there were many instantaneous healings, including those of colds, influenza, and headaches. I accepted Christian Science totally and never doubted its efficacy. Often difficulties were dispelled immediately when I turned to "the scientific statement of being." It concludes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." By the time I finished giving earnest, prayerful attention to the statement, freedom was the natural result. Also, the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I had begun attending afforded me continued inspiration and peace of mind.
