Unemployment—Gateway to Opportunity

Economic challenges bringing cutbacks in budgets and personnel—these need not be a disaster to those who find they no longer have a job. In the infinite universe of Mind is a perfect place for every one of God's ideas and we can demonstrate it. Those facing unemployment can draw inspiration from Mrs. Eddy's words, "My faith in God and in His followers rests in the fact that He is infinite good, and that He gives His followers opportunity to use their hidden virtues, to put into practice the power which lies concealed in the calm and which storms awaken to vigor and to victory."^{The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 204;}

Employment from the viewpoint of Christian Science implies expressing the qualities of intelligence, goodness, inspiration, beauty, strength, and so forth, which belong to man as God's likeness. God, having provided us with these qualities, does not fail to provide the opportunities through which they may be utilized. No matter how overwhelming seems the economic evidence, there is a place where each one can express the gifts God has given him and can share them with others.

Among the challenges facing the one seeking employment may be delay; the need to adapt to a different field of work; age restraints; lack of money. But these can all be surmounted through an understanding of Christian Science, which throws light on man's unlimited spiritual identity.
