Ideas and Qualities Constitute Man
A recent experience helped me awake to a better sense of man as a spiritual idea—that man is not a mortal apart from God, unsure, sometimes frustrated. I was in need of permanent part-time employment while in college. As I prayed to get a better sense of employment, I rejected thoughts of discouragement and lack of opportunity. In their place came vividly the awareness that employment was a right idea.
I reasoned that since in my real being as a spiritual idea of God I included all right ideas, I must include the very idea known as employment. It became clearer that I was not a mortal struggling to find employment, but that this idea was part of my real identity. This realization inspired me to declare that I was employed in expressing good, and I had an absolute conviction that I would see it evidenced. Within half an hour the thought came to me to seek part-time work at a local store.
I began to think, "What's the use? You know they won't have any position open." But I immediately rejected this thought. I was grateful for a sense of divine direction, and I entered the store and spoke to the manager. No position was available, but he referred me to another branch, where I was hired the following day.
