The Healing Power of Soul

According to Christian Science, man is the reflection of God. He possesses and expresses all that God is. Whatever belongs to God, man reflects. But he has nothing, and is nothing, other than what he reflects.

Among the synonyms for God used in Christian Science is "Soul." Soul is therefore not something which goes in and out of a man's body but is the divine Mind itself, which man reflects. It is divine Life, divine Love. But the synonym Soul is unique. It describes God not only as infinitely intelligent, immortally alive, and loving, but as conscious of Himself. He is not therefore like a principle in mathematics, which is unconscious.

Christ Jesus refers to God as his Father, and he taught us to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven." Matt. 6:9; Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, revealed the motherhood of God and refers to Him as Father-Mother. God is not only conscious of Himself but conscious of His offspring and conscious of His care for them. Thinking from a limited material viewpoint, it would seem that we must define God either as a person or as a principle. But the material sense of life and being cannot comprehend God, who is both Principle and Person but not a principle and/or a person. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mrs. Eddy writes, "If the term personality, as applied to God, means infinite personality, then God is infinite Person,—in the sense of infinite personality, but not in the lower sense. An infinite Mind in a finite form is an absolute impossibility." Science and Health, p. 116;
