A Reason for Not Stealing
It is no longer good enough to say, "Honesty is the best policy." Nor is it good enough to repeat the Bible commandment, "Thou shalt not steal." Ex. 20:15; With many educated people insisting that a thing is right if it is profitable, and with scholars challenging the authority of the Bible, the reason for honesty must be presented in a way that cannot be touched by materialistic arguments. Christian Science gives us a spiritually scientific basis for obeying the commandment.
This Science teaches that all that really exists belongs to divine Principle, Mind, God. By healing the sick, it demonstrates the truth to which Paul pointed when he said of God, "in him we live, and move, and have our being." Acts 17:28;
The divine Principle is Spirit, and man is Principle's spiritual reflection, or idea. Because we actually do live and move and have our being in the one Principle, our acknowledgment of this fact destroys the effects of our belief that we live in and express matter and material law. This is what happens when a disease is healed. And it happens because of what we actually are. If we were material creatures subject to material law, it would be impossible to nullify disease on the basis of our identity as spiritual ideas.
