As far back as I can remember I had a longing to...

As far back as I can remember I had a longing to know God. When a very young girl I joined a denominational church, which I attended until coming into Christian Science. I was always searching for something tangible to cling to, but had failed to find it. Every minister I met was asked why the promise of Christ Jesus to his followers: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father," was not fulfilled in the church, but not one could give a satisfactory answer. When in deep trouble, having injured my spine, and being in despair of ever being well again, I tried to find comfort in the Bible, but every time I opened it I was confronted with the admonition to repent of sin in order to obtain forgiveness. I could have cried aloud in agony, for was not that what I had been trying to do and had found no solace? Then came an instantaneous healing in the neighborhood through Christian Science. A miracle! What could it mean!

The only time I remembered having heard the words Christian Science was in connection with a healing some years ago, but it did not then seem to make much impression on me. To get the exact facts of the case I went to see the family in which the healing occurred, to be convinced or disillusioned, I did not know which. I saw the one who had been healed, heard the history of the disease and how it had been overcome, and could hardly wait to get the book which would tell me how to find God and to know Him as He really is. I just lived with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for over six weeks, hardly taking sufficient time to eat or sleep, and proved to my complete satisfaction that Christian Science is the truth. The first healing was of my younger son who was subject to spasms. To see the flush of fever subside, the pulse drop to normal, and a calm restful sleep replace what had been before was wonderful to me.

The discords which I had been hugging so closely to me disappeared one by one. Astigmatism, from which I had suffered all my life, and eyestrain, which resulted in severe headaches and for which I had worn glasses for several years, vanished while I was reading the textbook, and the headaches with it, leaving my eyes perfectly normal. The injured spine was healed in the same way, and I worked as I had never worked before, and enjoyed it. I ate what I liked, without ill effects, something I had not done for years. We have had many wonderful healings in our family, among them that of a broken arm and leg, one of which healings was instantaneous and the other slower, but both were perfect, without a splint being used or a surgeon employed. Gastritis, to which I had been subject before coming into Christian Science, came on very suddenly early one morning. The pain was so intense and continuous that at last
