[Written for the Sentinel]
Obedience
The
day seemed dark and full of gloom,
Athwart the sky the shadow fell,
My weary heart gave doubt full room
And none seemed near that I could tell.
"Be still and know that I am God,"
An angel whispered; I obeyed
That blest command, and realized
His wondrous power. My doubt was stayed.
When doubt had fled I heard a voice
Proclaiming straight from harmony,
"Rejoice! again I say rejoice!"
And as I heeded I was free;
Oh blessed day of liberty!
The sun shone golden in the blue,
Caroled the birds a glad refrain;
Rejoicing, I found all things new.
