[Written for the Sentinel.]

The "New-Birth" Day

PILGRIM, as the years roll by,
See God's beauties all unfold;

Age is gain for those who try
To leave the dross and guard the gold.

Never pause to think of time,
Nor sigh and falter: It is night.

Look for the immortal Light.

Years are steps by which we rise
Nearer youth, and lose decay:

Grow more loving, strong, and wise,
Thus unfolding in God's day.
