Our Warfare
But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.—Jesus.
Christian
, list!— the war we're waging
Is not one of shot or shell;
"Tis with thoughts that we are striving,
See we watch their movements well.
When we're stricken on the right cheek
That is pride—its stingings tell—
Turn the other—which is self-love—
Let them go and all is well.
When all love of self is conquered
Then the war has come to naught,
For the true self can't be troubled
With a single mortal thought.
