The Advance counsels the Congregational churches to dismiss without censure all Christian Scientists who wish to join Christian Science churches, but without the letters of recommendation to these churches, on ground that they are not evangelical in doctrine.

Definition of evangelical—Holding or conformed to what the majority of Protestants regard as the fundamental doctrines of the gospel, such as the Trinity, the fallen condition of man, Christ's atonement for sin, salvation by faith, not by works, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit; spiritually-minded; as, an evangelical church or denomination.
