Poems

Tears

Tears when in deep self-pity shedWill dim the sunlight overhead,But songs of gratitude will bringA vision cleared of envying,Where clouds of discontent give wayThat there may shine a tearless day.

"Peace, be still"

Enfolded like a jewel in the hills,The deep blue lake of Galilee lay still,One beauty with the skies, reflecting them.

Frankincense and Gold

I Have left my shepherdingFrankincense and gold to bring,Gold of faith refined by fire,Sweet perfume of high desire—This to be my offering,Frankincense and gold I bring.

Healing

He walked the highways, up small streets and down,And by the quiet Galilean sea,But whether in the country or the townThey sought him ceaselessly.

There Is No Night

Candles are we, our work to shine,Reflecting His clear light divine.

Love's Ways

Hate meant it unto me for grief,To darken what had been all joy;Love straightway brought a sweet relief,And busied me in its employ.

Your Light So Shines

I Wish that I could write my thought of youIn lovely music ringing pure and true;Or that my vision, faithfully expressedIn words and phrases beautifully dressed,Might paint a picture so that all could seeAnd share the lovely thoughts that come to me,Of one whose light shines out so valiantly,In spite of threatening clouds of storm and stress,That those whose way seems dark may pause and seeReflected love, that seeks to heal and bless;Of one whose open hand and heart would giveUnstintingly and eagerly their all;Receiving gratefully, striving to liveHumble, alert, obedient to God's call.

"Let there be light"

The mist that would obscure the rightIs false belief;God's first command, "Let there be light,"Still brings relief.

Wisdom

Just to be quiet, just to be kind,Just to be patient a little longer—To wait a bit for the children's feet,And to hold their hands till they grow stronger; Then ripe age shall have memories sweet.
