Looking outward and upward

Is it real Love, universal and divine Love, that we feel
when we speak with someone happily?
When we are engaged with what they are doing?
Thought is off ourselves, yes—it’s looking outward.
But is it looking upward, too? To God?
If not,
when the activity is over,
we may wonder why the niggles of being alone return,
why the good feelings seem illusory.
It’s not really the presence of a person—
the sound of their voice,
the repartee,
that physical shape before your eyes,
the fresh activity going on out there—
that gives you joy.
All good has its source in God,
so give Him all the glory.
You were well and at peace and full of joy already,
before you met those dear ones.
They haven’t caused your happiness.
Well-being
is not based on personal presence
but comes from God
as unlimited and ever-present Love.
So next time you pick up the phone
or meet on your walk
or link up on Zoom,
look upward.
Thank God for His friendship,
forever near and dear.
And when you put down the phone
or leave their house,
you aren’t alone.
You continue with your Father-Mother God.
Your thoughts are just as loving and pure
as before.
Why?
Because the infinite is their source.
