A young man’s chastity

Originally published in the 1978 pamphlet “Straight talk”

Mention the word “chastity,” and we’re likely to think of girls. But why shouldn’t chastity just as easily relate to us fellows? Regardless of how a lot of our friends may think and act on the surface, all of us, deep down, feel there is something kind of special about chastity.

Maybe it’s time we begin to learn more about it. Chastity is a pretty important part of us, and we deserve to understand it. What does it mean, anyway—a fellow’s chastity? Well, in one way it could be called just plain decent thinking and acting. But it’s even more than that. It has something to do with being morally pure. It means being free of overemphasis on the body. But how can a guy be free of the sensations of the body? And should he even want to be free! It really comes down to a question of whether we want to rule our body or whether we’re willing to let it control us.
