A stolen car – and the power of prayer

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

One day about a year ago, I gathered my books for the tutoring organization for which I work and drove to an open house at one of the elementary schools that we service. I parked about half a block from the school and headed inside, where I enjoyed productive meetings with parents and was able to share useful information with them about our tutoring program. After the meetings were over, however, I walked outside to find my Jeep gone.

How could I have been towed so close to the school? I wondered to myself. I noticed that many others had parked in the same area and their vehicles were still there when they returned! I walked up and down the street thinking that maybe I had parked farther away than I remembered. But I hadn’t.

Next I called the police to see if the vehicle had been towed. This seemed unlikely since school officials had told me I could park on that part of the street. The police gave me six phone numbers of private tow companies I could check in with. I dutifully called each of them, but none had towed my Jeep.
