My prayer for Greece

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Students and police recently clashed in Greece after a teenage boy was shot dead by police in Athens. Widespread rioting and violence highlighted ideological frustrations citizens have with the government.

My dear friends, my heart is not only with my family in Greece, but with everyone there during this eruption of violence. And my heart and prayers go out to the family of Alexandros Grigoropoulos. This is a great tragedy, and they, too, need all our prayers.

Our prayers to stop the rioting and violence and to bring order and safety can be effective. Jesus' prayers went to God, the Father and Mother of all of us, and so, too, must we go to God in prayer for help in Greece. For this true and only God, the divine Love, is the power that purifies and motivates everyone's hearts and minds towards good and brings healing.
