Healing

A sacred hush, a warmth of peace,A vision seen that eyes ne'er knew!Perplexing claims of error cease,Earth fades, — heaven opens to the view!

Heaven

Are there no flowers in heaven, she cried,No streets of shining gold,No angel-songs that rise and fallAs the gates of pearl unfold?

The Hills of God

A child in the valley village,I gazed with rapture awedOn the mountains' crown near the little town,And fancied they brought some blessing downTo those below who must toil and plod,So I called them the hills of God.

Love

Across the gulf of human limitationLove reaches out!Across the seething waves of desolationAnd arid wastes of doubtLove's mighty hands stretch ever,Spanning gulf, desert, river! And our poor groping fingers find and holdHands, strong and kind, and, following wherethey lead,Out of the earth-mists cold,Find heaven indeed!

An Autumn Musing

Each falling leaf proclaims a resurrection; The fading flowers immortal blooms declare; When understood, it is the heart's electionOf higher thought of nature's tints so fair.

Loyalty

"And thou wast also with the Nazarene!"O word of accusation, richly fraughtWith honor! What those loving hands have wroughtEnwraps the servant; sheds o'er life and thoughtThe halo of that matchless life serene.

From Conquering hate, enthroning peace

Love's triumph over hate

How can we love when others hate? Prayerful turning to God, divine Love, with the earnest desire to express His qualities under all circumstances will give us strength and ability to do right.

From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Our Guest

He came unto our home one eve, alone.

Peace

Heed but the voice of Truth—thy peace,Like the flowing river, shall not cease:Flowing from God, its endless source; If through thy consciousness it course,And thou bar not the channel pure,Thy peace—Love's peace—shall be secure!

Prescience

The wise men in the East beheld a star,And journeying onward felt new glory's scope,—A wisdom, and a mission, and a hope,Transcending heights whereon time's altars are;And coming down the years they kenned afar,As something seen far-off, a mountain-slope,A risen radiance, as when dawn doth ope,The vision of a fadeless avatar!

Kindness

Kindness , a breath of blissful peace,From heart to heart sped on its way,Bringeth the joy of heaven today,And maketh the din of earth to cease.

Divine Allness

O Truth divine, descending as a dove,Thy voice a presence, breathing forth Thy loveIn heavenly song, expresseth good from TheeTo all who seeking light find liberty.

Freedom

I met my comrade in the way,And scarce I knew his face,So changed it was from grave to gay,So lit with light of higher day,So touched to nobler grace.
