Image and Inspiration

O daughter of Zion, awake from thy sadness; Awake, for thy foes shall oppress thee no more; And bright o’er thy hills dawns the daystar of gladness; Arise, for the night of thy sorrow is o’er.

Open now our eyes to see

Open now our eyes to see, As the clouds of sense are riven, We behold reality, Know the glory of Thy heaven; So we seek Thy perfect healing Through the Truth of Thy revealing.

LOST AND FOUND

I saw that in order to find my life, I had to first lose it—that is, lose all sense of life as material.

Breaking through the clouds of darkness

Breaking through the clouds of darkness, Black with error, doubt, and fear;Lighting up each somber shadow, With a radiance soft and clear;Filling every heart with gladness, That its holy power feels,Comes the Christian Science gospel, Sin it kills and grief it heals.

We thank Thee, heavenly Father

We thank Thee, heavenly Father, For Thy correcting rod, Which guides us in our journey And leads us home to God.

Such tender beauty, Lord, from Thee

Such tender beauty, Lord, from Thee Is shed abroad o’er all the earth; In bird, in sunbeam, light and flower Thy grace and goodness may be seen.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

With love and peace and joy supreme

With love and peace and joy supremeWe hail the new appearing; From out the darkness and the dream,The haven of rest is nearing.

Keep while ye need it

Keep while ye need it, brothers mine,With honest zeal your Christmas sign,But judge not him who every mornFeels in his heart the Lord Christ born.

Arise, arise and shine

Arise, arise and shine, On thee hath dawned the day;God is thy sun, and Christ thy light, Be thou a steadfast ray.
Corporeal sense, or error, may seem to hide Truth, health, harmony, and Science, as the mist obscures the sun or the mountain; but Science, the sunshine of Truth, will melt away the shadow and reveal the celestial peaks.

Trust the Eternal

Trust the Eternal, for the clouds that vanish No more can move the mountains from their baseThan sin’s illusive wreaths of mist can banish Light from His throne or loving from His face.

Sometimes a light surprises

Sometimes a light surprises
The Christian while he sings;
It is the Lord who rises
With healing in his wings.
