Healing through our Text-book

It is interesting to note that in the great number of testimonials of healing through Christian Science which come to us for publication, there are many in which this healing has been the direct result of reading the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.

The True Liberalism

The so-called broadening of religious thought in late years has been very marked, and in so far as the change has signified an increase of charitableness and consideration for the convictions of others, it is an occasion for thanksgiving.
The recent Inter-Church Conference held in New York City has given rise to much discussion among religious people, which it is to be hoped will result in a better understanding of what really constitutes a Christian.

"Heal the sick."

We are sometimes asked for advice as to how greater growth of Christian Science may be brought about in communities wherein the work has been established for some considerable time, yet the organized church or society has not advanced in membership as rapidly as have similar organizations in other places.

Every thoughtful person who reads President Roosevelt's Thanksgiving proclamation must be impressed by the emphasis given to the moral and spiritual element,—that which alone makes for the true prosperity of a nation.

We are prompted to state, for the benefit of those who have inquired about the progress of the work on the extension to The Mother Church, that the erection of the building is proceeding rapidly: in fact, it is being pushed with the utmost energy, and at the present time there are no less than fifteen different trades represented.

A recent theory respecting disease, which has found utterance by no less an authority than Sir Frederick Treves, is to the effect that "the motive of disease is benevolent and protective," and that if it were not for disease "the human race would be extinct.
It was in the twilight of his earthly ministry, when, as John tells us, Jesus knew his hour was now come, that he drew his nearest followers close about him in an upper room, for a last heart-to-heart talk with them.

An Unsupported Position

The following extract from a sermon recently preached in Brooklyn, "The City of Churches," from the text, "Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk," is an example of the arguments which have been used to justify the non-healing nature of modern religion, but we think it will not bring to many a conviction that the healing which Jesus performed is duplicated in the work of the physicians of to-day, or that the Master's command to heal the sick is fulfilled in the building of hospitals.
