In a recent issue of The Citizen you published a short report of a lecture on hypnotism, in which the lecturer alludes to Christian Science, saying that "it advocates the power of suggestion and the strengthening of the will.
Before the clarifying rays of Christian Science were observed amid the chaos of human thinking, it was a traditional saying that Jesus' use of parables and figurative language made his teaching transcendental and obscure.

Expression Equals Demonstration

On page 336 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes: "Immortal man was and is God's image or idea, even the infinite expression of infinite Mind, and immortal man is coexistent and coeternal with that Mind.

Independence

In view of the fact that the world has arrived at a stage when as never before independence is being sought after by the individual, the classes, the nations, the thinkers, it is very essential that the true meaning of that state should be understood in order that the pitfalls laid by human sense whenever its claims are threatened by a right idea, may be seen, avoided, and eventually destroyed.

Seeing

Throughout the Scriptures the word "eye" is frequently used to denote spiritual vision, as when Job declared upon gaining a clearer thought of God, "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee;" and the prophet Isaiah exclaimed, "For mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
