‘The beauty of holiness’
Are we really at the mercy of negative situations, or can a conscious understanding of God, divine Life, adjust our view, resulting in a changed situation? I had an experience some years ago, where just such a change in thought resulted in improvement.
I was driving on a fairly isolated road quite early one morning, and I needed to stop at a rest stop in a forest picnic area. As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed a solitary car parked with a man sitting inside. I felt an overwhelming sense of disquiet. The uneasiness was so strong that I sat there and prayed to know what was right—to stop there or keep driving. Within a short time, I felt at peace. I got out of the car, and as I did, so did the man. He walked over and stood abnormally close to me. He started a conversation by saying I had been following him, but that wasn’t true because no one had been in front of me on the road for a while.
As I moved around to the back of the car, so did the man. He continued to talk, but I wasn’t paying attention to him. I prayerfully turned my thought to God, acknowledging His allness and ever-presence. My thought then turned to beholding God’s creation, seeing that there could be nothing ungodlike. I was inspired to look out at the view before me and found myself saying, “It’s going to be a beautiful day.” That was an odd thing to say because it was cloudy and looked as if it was going to rain.
