Eczema gone

A recent Daily Lift podcast tells of the love and gratitude individuals expressed in letters to the Discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, for her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Many describe having been healed of a wide variety of ailments just by reading the book. A number of these letters are included in the book’s last chapter, titled “Fruitage.” I would be remiss if I didn’t share my own special healing that came about as a result of reading this book. 

I had been raised in Christian Science but had drifted away from attending Sunday School. When I was in high school, though, I began eagerly reading Science and Health each night to learn precious truths about God that before I had accepted only on a superficial level. Interestingly, after studying Science and Health consistently over one summer and looking up all the words I didn’t know, I scored much higher than my grade level on a vocabulary test and was placed in an accelerated English class for the first time in my school career.

Along with that, I had a wonderful healing. I had been born with eczema, and this skin condition had plagued me for most of my youth. The problem would abate somewhat when my mom asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, but it would eventually reappear. I avoided wearing short-sleeved dresses or shirts because of the unsightly rash, and I struggled to find relief from the itching.
