Overcoming distractions
We can find peace by striving to see in ourselves God’s qualities of spiritual strength, endurance, and fulfillment.
Originally published for the Christian Science Sentinel online on November 23, 2023
Has someone ever tried to have a conversation with you while you were busy doing something else, and you told them, “Don’t worry, I can multitask”? Were you really able to listen? Or did you feel distracted?
Maybe you’ve been watching a TV show or scrolling through social media and suddenly realized that you have unintentionally spent far more time on the activity than planned.
Even engaging in enjoyable hobbies can be a slippery slope. A few hours working in the garden, reading a novel, or playing a video game can feel like a nice break. However, when the hours slip away, and we find ourselves binging on leisure time, we have been drawn away from doing what needs to be done that day, especially listening for God’s thoughts and guidance.
