Our role in healing
Christ Jesus once told his disciples: “Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do” (John 14:12, Christian Standard Bible). Referring to this statement, the Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “The highest earthly representative of God, speaking of human ability to reflect divine power, prophetically said to his disciples, speaking not for their day only but for all time: ‘He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;’ . . .” (p. 52).
Christian Scientists take Jesus’ prophecy literally, accepting that it applies to anyone in any age who is his disciple. Therefore, in their practice of Christian Science, they strive to prove this—even if in a modest way—through Christ-healing, just as Jesus said.
So, is healing something we do?
