Baby’s rash quickly disappears

In the summer of 2022, I received a call from my infant son’s day-care center asking me to come pick him up because they saw a rash developing on his face and chest. It was the center’s policy to send a child home if he or she exhibited such symptoms. I assured them that I would be there quickly to get him and thanked them for getting in touch.

When the phone call had come, I had been listening to an episode of the Sentinel Watch podcast. In the program (Amy Richmond, “Are injury and disease inescapable?” November 8, 2021), the guest shared how she’d found healing from an injury after considering the Bible account of Jesus walking on the water and inviting Peter to walk out to him (see Matthew 14:22–32). She noted that Peter was able to walk on the water . . . until he turned his attention from Christ to the tumult of the wind and waves, which made him fearful, and he began to sink.

As I got in the car to drive to the day-care center, I committed to keeping myself focused on Christ, on the knowledge that each of God’s children—my son and me, and everyone at the center—has an unbroken relation to our Maker, and that no evil could intrude in that relationship. This steadfast prayer quickly quieted any fearful thoughts that would have me wondering what this rash might be. I felt calm and buoyed by these ideas on my short drive to the center.
