Gratitude and sharing
Dear Reader,
At Thanksgiving, gratitude to God naturally causes people to share what they have. It could be food, clothing, funds, or kind greetings.
Sharing good always springs from gratitude. Early Christians eagerly shared the good news of their faith, often through healing. Peter, one of Jesus’ closest followers, said to the lame man he healed, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6).
Christian Scientists also share freely what has healed them and made their lives better. Passing along an article, testimony, or podcast from the Christian Science periodicals is one avenue for sharing. This sharing isn’t a random act. A grateful heart is open to God’s guidance. God, divine Mind, is the cause of all good—including both the healing inspiration in an article and how it reaches someone in need.
Recently, a reader in Latin America wrote about sharing an article called “Sacred solitude” that was posted on Heraldo-Online in September 2020.
The reader says, “Let me start by expressing gratitude to God. Now I have a wonderful tool [a share button] to share this piece with my sister-in-law, who at the moment says that she will die if she remains isolated. When she reads this wonderful truth, I am sure she will also awake to it. And I, personally, was also able to understand many things better.”
In the redesigned Sentinel launching in 2021, we are giving special attention to filling each issue with content that you will want—and find easy—to share. This includes making sure that the language in articles and testimonies presents the teachings of Christian Science clearly, so that they touch the heart and strengthen the understanding. Simplicity, honesty, and spiritual depth carry an author’s message to people who are “waiting and watching for rest and drink,” as Mary Baker Eddy, who founded the Sentinel, describes them in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 570).
This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for you. Thank you for reading, listening to, and sharing the good you find in all of the Christian Science periodicals. Please feel free to be in touch via conversation@csps.com.
