Healing of puncture wounds

In our backyard sat a section of old, previously used decking, resting upside down on concrete blocks. One evening, I went out to watch our new kitten run and play among the backyard plants. I thought I had selected a seat on the decking where there were no nails, but when I sat down, I realized I’d sat hard on some. Getting up required some effort. I was startled, frightened, and in considerable pain, and I went to find my husband for help. Although I was trying to pray with spiritual truths that were very familiar to me, it was difficult to get past the pain and fear.

That week’s Bible Lesson, found in the Christian Science Quarterly and comprising passages from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, included statements about darkness and light. Light represents what is good and spiritual, while darkness represents error and matter. I knew that as God’s child, I reflect that perfect light, and darkness couldn’t overtake my thought or harm me.

I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful treatment, and my husband read to me from the Bible Lesson. I eventually fell asleep. When I woke up in pain and discomfort around 3:00 a.m., I read an email that the practitioner had sent, which also referred to darkness and light. With the conviction that my life truly is light, I felt some physical relief and comfort, and again went to sleep.
