Proving our agelessness—at any age
With poetic panache Bob Dylan summarized the limited nature of mortal existence. “He not busy being born is busy dying,” he sang in “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding).”
Of course, there’s far more to life than just that. Our human lives are a rich tapestry of experiences, many of which can be wonderful, while others can be challenging. But there’s also something beyond the confines of even the best cradle-to-grave existence that we can get “busy” with—namely, understanding and proving a deeper identity that we all have in relation to the divine.
This profound, spiritual aspect of our existence is more than just an ethereal add-on to our daily lives. It truly is our life, the divine Life, God, that we see evidenced with unique clarity in the Gospel narratives of Christ Jesus. The Bible records his virgin birth, his many remarkable healings, and his raising of several individuals from death. All of these, as well as his own resurrection, point to an unwavering “fountain of life” (see Psalms 36:9) that can be understood and even experienced in concrete ways.
