No more flu symptoms
Around Easter several years ago, I began experiencing flu-like symptoms, and began to pray, as I usually do when confronted with physical difficulties.
I am used to having quick healings, so when the symptoms worsened and breathing became difficult, I called a Christian Science practitioner to support me through prayer while I continued to pray. Over a period of a few weeks, my condition would improve, and then I would relapse. The practitioner’s steadfast support and absolute conviction helped eliminate feelings of discouragement on my end.
I never doubted that healing would occur, but sometimes fear would try to take over my thinking. It was important, as Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, to “stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously” (p. 392). In Christian Science we learn that our body reflects our thinking, so I began treating these symptoms as aggressive mental suggestions instead of bodily conditions. The suggestion of flu may have come disguised as my thinking, but it was really nothing but the claim that there is a power apart from God.
