Healing of fear after home invasion
A few years ago, I was robbed in my family’s house in London, England. The burglars came into the house at night whilst I was asleep and alone in the house. They stole my laptop and other items, including my iPod, jacket, and laptop bag. I was deeply grateful that they did not come upstairs to my room to hurt me.
Immediately after the incident, replays of the intrusion kept bombarding my thought. In fact, I could barely sleep, I was so afraid. I found myself looking out the window almost every hour to see if there was anyone breaking into the house. I would think to myself, “Why don’t you relocate to another place?” and “Why don’t you get someone to live with you?”
My family members admired the courage of my decision to stay in the house, and I knew that decision was based on my understanding of and strong faith in God. As a result of my devotion to the teachings of Christian Science, I decided to turn to the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. First, I turned to this passage in Second Timothy: “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (1:7).
