Led by the Christ
Years ago, while I was living and working on a small island, I would drive to and from work past a busy roundabout crowded with billboards advertising events on the island. I noticed one billboard about a Christian Science lecture. My first thought was “Those two words don’t go together.” My opinion on science and Christianity at that time was formed from a freshman anthropology class, which had declared that the two disciplines were naturally opposed.
Each day as I drove past the sign, I became more and more curious about “Christian Science,” so I attended the lecture. The ideas shared were thought-provoking, especially when the speaker told how, by relying on prayer alone, he had been quickly healed of injuries after a car accident. I wanted to know how this was possible.
Weeks later, I began attending Christian Science church services. I particularly enjoyed hearing the testimonies that were shared by the congregation at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. I soon discerned that I too could learn to practice this Christianly scientific method of healing and so find solutions to the challenges I was facing at the time.
