God's restraining hand
This day is His “must do” day,
for nothing more could I wish or pray.
No jamming, cramming, pushing through,
gentle is He with whom I have to do.
Already settled are my heaven-filled eyes
on enterprises I could never devise.
Just leaning, trusting, listening, heeding,
no intellectual or spiritual force-feeding.
We should not take His love in vain,
it’s plain that strain’s against His grain.
No craggy cliff or ledge from which to fall,
our understanding firmly grounds us all.
—Grace Carter
