A WINDOW TO GOD'S LOVE

I suppose nobody can answer that question for anybody else. But for me, it's always been about love. When I look back at my many experiences attending church through the years, the one common factor has been the enfolding love of God that I always felt, expressed through church members.

For instance, when I was newly married, the members of my Christian Science branch church took me to their hearts right away, giving me a wonderful opportunity to launch right into church work. They supported me as I began teaching Sunday School. They poured out the most heartfelt readings and healings in Wednesday testimony meetings that fed me spiritually week after week.

But their support didn't stop there. It overflowed. They held baby showers for me. They invited our family over to their homes for potluck suppers. When my husband passed on suddenly, and I was left with a baby and a toddler to raise, they comforted me with an outpouring of spiritual sharing and helped with practical needs until I could get my financial footing. Needless to say, it never occurred to me to wonder why I went to church. It was for the tenderness each member expressed. And this love opened up a window to understanding the nature of God, who I learned is divine Love itself.
