"Beginning July 24, Church of the Servant [Grand Rapids, Michigan] held a 24/7 prayer event. ... 'People sign up for one-hour sessions to fill up 168 hours,' said Jennifer Degraas-Tendero, coordinator of the event for Church of the Servant. 'This week there are 24/7 prayer events taking place in over 50 countries and over 17 churches and organizations in Michigan.'
"Round-the-clock prayer started with a group of young people in a small church in England in 1999, she said. They started with the idea of trying to pray nonstop for an entire month, and it grew from there. The event exists to change the world through Christ-centered and mission-minded prayer, Degraas-Tendero said. Some people believe 24/7 prayer is the start of the greatest prayer movement in history. ...
"Church members prepared for this week by attending sessions on prayer at the church. Before they pray, participants can look at a prayer wall where people have posted prayer requests. The first 15 minutes of prayer is dedicated to guiding youth culture and the unity in mission of the church, Degraas-Tendero said. The rest of the time is dedicated to fulfilling prayer requests or personal prayer.
