Prayer proves reliable in an emergency

I was pruning some trees in our front yard and felt a sharp prick on my wrist. It didn't bother me at first, and I continued working.

But in a short time, I began to feel considerable pain, and I saw that discoloration was traveling up my arm. I was alarmed. I called my husband at work and asked him to pray for me.

I also asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. She immediately responded with spiritual truths that began to calm my fear. One of these truths was from Mary Baker Eddy's book Unity of Good. It says, "The true man, really saved, is ready to testify of God in the infinite penetration of Truth..." (p. 2). She talked with me further, and told me to turn my thoughts toward spiritual reality. I understood that the physical evidence before my eyes was illusive, and that I would find safety and healing in understanding the spiritual reality of God's perfection. That perfection was true of me, too, as His child. The practitioner assured me that she would pray for me.
