Healed of malaria
As a teenager, I entered a boys' boarding high school some 300 miles west of Nairobi. This meant a change in the climate I was used to.
The third week of school, I became feverish. When the school administration was alerted, I was immediately rushed to the hospital, where my blood was tested. I was found to have malaria.
Over time, I would be given many tablets in different packs as my medicine. Despite all this, I experienced symptoms of malaria twice every term until I was in my third year. My friends and teachers assumed it was normal for me to be sick because I had not been brought up in the hot and wet climate of the highlands. However, I was questioning myself as to why the sickness was recurring.
